RELEASE: Patients For Affordable Drugs Launches New Ad on Fox & Friends Encouraging Pres. Trump to Negotiate A Better Deal for American Patients

Press Releases | April 3, 2025

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Patients For Affordable Drugs (P4AD) has launched a new TV ad set to air nationally on Fox & Friends today. The ad encourages President Donald Trump to continue protecting Medicare’s ability to negotiate lower drug prices – a policy his Administration has defended in court and one that will save patients and taxpayers billions of dollars. The ad encourages President Trump to secure an even better deal for Americans, consistent with his own words that drug companies are “getting away with murder.”

The 30-second spot, titled “Better Deal,” reminds viewers that Americans pay the highest prices in the world for prescription drugs thanks to the powerful drug lobbies that have prevented Medicare from negotiating for two decades. The ad underscores the continued momentum behind Medicare negotiation — a long-overdue fix that Trump advocated for during his first term. The ad includes direct quotes from President Trump during a 2018 Rose Garden speech on the importance of negotiation and reining in the drug companies.

“President Trump has long hailed himself as a dealmaker — and right now, he has a real opportunity to deliver a better deal for American patients,” said Patients For Affordable Drugs Executive Director Merith Basey. “The President himself has said that as the largest drug buyer in the world, the government has failed to negotiate the lower prices Americans deserve. The first round of Medicare negotiations cut Medicare prices by an average of 22 percent and will save patients and taxpayers billions. But Big Pharma is fighting tooth and nail inside and outside the courtroom to protect its record profits at the expense of patients. As the next round of negotiations continues, President Trump can stand with Americans—not drug companies.”

The ad comes amidst 10 lawsuits filed by drug companies against the federal government to stop Medicare from negotiating lower drug prices to get Americans a better deal. Of these 10 lawsuits, pharmaceutical manufacturers have been ruled against eight times. Of the two remaining cases, one, brought by Teva, was just filed in October, and the other, filed by Merck, is still awaiting a ruling in the District Court for the District of Columbia. Despite their lawsuits, all of the drug companies that make the 25 medications selected for negotiation under Medicare Part D voluntarily agreed to participate in negotiations.

To date, P4AD has submitted four amicus briefs in the Third Circuit – one in the consolidated cases brought by Bristol Myers Squibb, AstraZeneca, and Janssen Pharmaceuticals and one in the case brought by Novo Nordisk. They also signed onto seven amicus briefs led by Public Citizen and with allies such as Protect Our Care, Doctors for America, and Families USA. By leveraging the expertise of our partners and amplifying patient stories, P4AD is challenging Big Pharma’s attempts to undermine Medicare negotiation through the U.S. legal system.
